The music of Fernando Sor (Barcelona, 1778–París, 1839) resonates with universal and cosmopolitan aspects of the Spanish guitar: Viennese classical style elegance in forms, beautiful Italian operatic simplicity and Germanic romantic lyricism in expression. These are all absorbed and reflected in Parisian dynamism as Sor made the guitar capable of transcending national and cultural barriers.
